Privacy Policy

1. Core Commitment: Client-Side Processing

At BrowserTools (https://browsertools.online), user privacy is our foundational architecture, not an afterthought. Unlike typical online tool websites, the vast majority of the utilities on this platform execute entirely inside your web browser using client-side JavaScript, WebAssembly, and modern HTML5 APIs. We operate zero file-upload backends, maintain no remote user databases, and require no account registration.

For those tools, your files, converted documents, typed text, generated passwords, and media never leave your device. A small number of tools cannot work that way — an IP lookup has to ask a server where you are, and a breach checker has to query a database. Those are listed honestly in section 4, and each of their pages states exactly what data leaves your browser and where it goes. We have not pretended otherwise anywhere on this site.

2. Local Storage & Cookies

The site uses browser localStorage to remember things on your device. It is never transmitted to any server, and clearing your browser cache or site data removes it immediately. Three things are stored, all of them locally:

• Theme preference — dark or light. Written once when you change it.
• Favourites — the list of tools you have starred, so it persists between visits. Stored only in your browser.
• Online Notepad contents — the notepad saves your text and the filename you typed to your own device as you type, so nothing is lost if you close the tab. It stays on your machine and is never sent anywhere. Because it is stored locally and indefinitely, do not paste anything sensitive into the notepad on a shared or public computer — clear your site data when you are finished with it. The notepad also has a clear control that removes it immediately.

3. Google AdSense & Third-Party Advertising

To keep all 186+ tools free without paywalls or usage quotas, BrowserTools is funded by advertising served by third-party partners, including Google AdSense.

Current status: no advertisements are being served on this site right now, and no advertising code is loaded on any page. AdSense display is pending approval, and the site loads no ad script until there is a slot for it to fill. The rest of this section describes what will happen once that changes, so it stays accurate without needing an edit at that point.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites across the Internet.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve personalized or contextual ads to users based on their visit to BrowserTools and other sites on the Internet.
• Users may opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info choices or youronlinechoices.com.

Ads disclosure: BrowserTools is intended to show ads via Google AdSense to stay free. No ads are currently served. When they are, ads will never block tool use, and your files/inputs will never be shared with advertisers. Learn how to manage ad cookies in our Cookie Policy.

4. Network-Enabled Utilities

Most tools on this site work entirely offline after the page loads. Eight cannot, because the task itself requires talking to a service. They are listed here in full (one per tool), and each tool's own page repeats what is sent:

• What Is My IP: queries a public geolocation endpoint (ipwho.is) from your browser to report the address you are connecting from. The page also offers optional links that open your address in ipinfo.io or OpenStreetMap in a new tab.
• IP Address Lookup: queries the same public geolocation endpoint (ipwho.is) from your browser for any address you enter, with the same optional links out to ipinfo.io and OpenStreetMap.
• Internet Speed Test: downloads test files from a public CDN and uploads 512 KB blocks of filler data to Cloudflare's public speed-test endpoint at speed.cloudflare.com in order to measure your upload speed. If that endpoint blocks cross-origin requests, the tool reports upload as not measurable rather than guessing.
• Password Breach Checker: uses k-anonymity — only the first 5 characters of your password's SHA-1 hash are sent to the HaveIBeenPwned API. Your password and your full hash never leave your browser.
• Discord Webhook Sender: sends the message you type to Discord's own API. This is the entire purpose of the tool.
• Discord Webhook Deleter: sends the webhook URL you supply to Discord's own API to delete it. This is the entire purpose of the tool.
• Media Downloader: requests the direct file URL you supply, which is by definition a request from your browser to that third-party host.
• Speech to Text: uses your browser's built-in speech recogniser rather than sending audio itself, and what happens next depends on the browser. In Chrome and Edge the recogniser runs on Google's cloud speech service and receives your microphone audio. In Safari it runs on-device and no audio is uploaded. This is the only tool here that can handle voice, so treat it accordingly: if what you are dictating is sensitive, use Safari.

Separately, media tools (audio and video conversion, joining, trimming) download an FFmpeg engine of roughly 30 MB from a CDN on first use, and the Background Remover downloads a machine-learning model of a similar order on its first run. Your own media file is never uploaded in either case — only the engine is fetched.

5. GDPR & European Privacy Rights

If you reside within the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you are entitled to full rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Because BrowserTools does not collect, store, or profile your personal data or uploaded files, we hold no user data to inspect, rectify, or delete. Advertising cookies are set only by Google AdSense and its partners when ads load — depending on your region and settings Google may serve personalised or non-personalised ads. 6. California Consumer Privacy (CCPA / CPRA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, California consumers have the right to know what personal data is collected and to request its deletion. BrowserTools does not sell personal information or share personal data with data brokers.

7. Analytics and advertising requests

Two things contact a third party on a page view today, and one more will:

• Cloudflare Web Analytics (static.cloudflareinsights.com) is enabled on this site. It is cookie-free and does not build a persistent profile, but it does record page views with the page URL, referrer, approximate country, browser and device type, and Core Web Vitals timings, and posts them to BrowserTools's own Cloudflare account. It is how we find out which tools are slow.
• Google AdSense (pagead2.googlesyndication.com) will load to keep the site free once ad serving is enabled. It is not loaded today.
• The eight network tools in section 4 each contact the service named there, and media tools fetch a one-time engine from a CDN on first use.

There is no session recording, no form or keystroke capture, and no cross-site tracking on this site today. If that changes, this section will describe exactly what runs, what it records, and why.

8. Cookie Policy

Cookies on BrowserTools are limited to (a) essential localStorage for your theme, your favourites and any Online Notepad text, and (b) advertising cookies set by Google AdSense and its partners once ad serving is enabled and you view a page carrying an ad. Cloudflare Web Analytics sets no cookies at all — it is a cookieless measurement script, which is why section 7 can describe what it records without it tracking you across sites. You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; blocking them will not break any tool, only affect ad personalisation.
