What is Random Color Palette Generator?

Every palette starts from a single random base hue between 0 and 359 and then picks one of four offset patterns: a 30-degree analogous run, a tight 20-degree spread, a complementary pair with supporting neighbours, or an analogous set that straddles the 0/360 seam. Saturation is drawn between 45 and 85 percent for each swatch, and lightness climbs from 30 to 78 percent across the five, so the set always reads as a dark-to-light ramp you can build a scale out of. Each swatch is clickable and copies its own value; the Copy as CSS variables button emits a :root block with --color-1 through --color-5. The panel opens on a fixed blue ramp until you press New palette.

Generate beautiful random color palettes built around a random base hue with pleasing harmony. Every palette shows HEX values and exports as ready-to-paste CSS variables.

How to use Random Color Palette Generator

1

Press New palette to roll a base hue, a harmony pattern, five saturations and the lightness ramp.

2

Click any swatch to copy that single HEX value.

3

Use Copy as CSS variables to place the five colours into the clipboard as a :root rule.

4

Hover or focus the swatches to widen one of them for inspection, or press the refresh icon to roll again without touching the copy button.

Key Capabilities
  • Five swatches per palette, with lightness stepping from 30 to 78 percent for a usable dark-to-light ramp.
  • Four harmony patterns chosen per roll: analogous, tight, complementary and seam-straddling.
  • Saturation drawn per swatch between 45 and 85 percent.
  • Individual swatch copy plus a one-click :root export with --color-1 through --color-5.
Common Use Cases
  • A front-end developer needs a five-step colour ramp for a dark-mode toggle and copies the CSS variables into the theme file.
  • A design student building a mood board rolls palettes until one harmony matches the reference imagery.
  • A marketing designer picking a hero background and accent pair scans the ramp and keeps the two ends of the lightness run.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the palette look like five shades of one colour?
That is the design. The harmony patterns are hue relationships and the lightness ramp is linear, so the set behaves like a tints-and-shades scale of a single colour rather than five competing hues. Swatches two and five are usually your lightest and darkest steps.
Are the contrast ratios between steps large enough for body text?
Not automatically, and no generator can promise it without knowing your text colour and font size. Treat the exported ramp as a starting palette and check the specific pairing you intend to ship.
The colours did not change when I clicked Copy as CSS variables. Why?
That button copies the palette currently on screen. The palette only changes when you press New palette or the refresh icon, and the first palette shown is a fixed placeholder blue ramp.
