What is WebP to PNG Converter?

You saved a WebP and now something downstream will not open it: an older desktop editor, a print workflow, a CMS field that whitelists formats, or a colleague whose tooling predates 2020. This converts it to a PNG the old software will take without complaint. Two honest caveats. First, if the WebP was lossy — and most are — the PNG is a lossless re-encode of an already-degraded image, so it will usually be a much larger file showing the same artefacts. Second, an animated WebP yields only its first frame here, because the browser's image decoder exposes one still. That is fine for a thumbnail or a sprite sheet; it is not a way to recover a GIF.

Convert WebP images to universally compatible PNG files when an app or website refuses to accept WebP. Local conversion with zero uploads and batch support.

WebP to PNG Converter is processed locally with client-side JavaScript. Your files never touch a server, and there is no queue to wait in.

Step-by-Step

How to use WebP to PNG Converter

1

Feed .webp files into the Convert to PNG panel, up to 50 at a time.

2

Let the browser decode the WebP, then let the encoder write an 8-bit PNG — there is no quality setting on this path.

3

Skim the size line on each card to see how the lossless re-encode compares with the source.

4

Download the single result, or select Download all (N) as ZIP for the whole batch.

Key Capabilities
  • The file picker accepts only image/webp and .webp
  • Outputs a standard 8-bit PNG readable by software that predates WebP support
  • Handles up to 50 files per run, delivered as a single ZIP download
  • Prints the source and result byte sizes together on every card so the size jump is obvious
Common Use Cases
  • A marketing coordinator whose CMS upload field rejects anything outside a PNG/JPG whitelist.
  • A print designer handed a WebP asset by a designer who exported from a modern browser.
  • A developer embedding a WebP in a project that still targets a build step without WebP support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will converting to PNG make the image look better?
No. It cannot. WebP is usually already lossy, so the artefacts are in the file before it reaches this tool. What improves is compatibility, not fidelity.
What happens to an animated WebP?
Only the first frame is decoded, because the browser's ImageBitmap decoder returns a single still image. For the full animation you need a source file or a video conversion instead.
Is there a quality slider?
Not on this one. PNG encoding is lossless, so there is no compression level to trade against quality — the settings panel is simply absent.
Is my file uploaded for conversion?
No network call is involved. The decode happens in the tab, so the Network panel stays empty while you convert.
