What is Remove Line Breaks?

Text copied out of a PDF, a spreadsheet column or a plain-text email often arrives with a line break after every visual line, and pasting it into a form produces a single unreadable row. Two modes handle this. The first joins everything: every run of line breaks becomes one space, runs of spaces and tabs collapse to a single space, and the result is trimmed. That produces proper flowing text rather than text with the newlines simply deleted, which would weld the last word of one line to the first of the next. The second keeps structure, treating each blank line as a paragraph boundary and joining only the lines inside each block, so the paragraphs survive as blank lines between them. Everything is done on the text in your browser as you type.

Why replace the breaks with spaces instead of deleting them?
Because deletion fuses the last word of one line to the first of the next. A PDF that wraps mid-sentence gives you the end of a word glued to the start of another, which is unreadable and unsearchable. Substituting a space restores the words and leaves a single clean line.
What counts as a paragraph boundary?
A blank line — an empty line, or whitespace and then a newline. In the keep-paragraphs mode each block between blank lines is joined internally and the blocks are rejoined with a blank line between them. Single line breaks inside a block disappear; the blank lines are what tell the tool where the paragraphs were.
Will it mangle my spacing?
Runs of spaces and tabs collapse to one, so a line indented with eight spaces does not carry that indentation into the result. That is usually what you want when cleaning up pasted text. If the extra spacing is meaningful, in a table for instance, this is the wrong tool.
Does it handle old Mac line endings?
Yes, as well as Windows and Unix ones. Every line break sequence is matched regardless of whether it is a carriage return on its own, a carriage return and line feed together, or a bare line feed, so text from any source joins cleanly.
