What is Zodiac Sign Calculator?

Type a birth date and you get the sign, its glyph, the element it belongs to — fire, earth, air or water — the exact date span it covers, and the four adjectives the tradition attaches to it. Capricorn is the only sign that wraps the year end, running from 22 December to 19 January, and the lookup handles that boundary correctly, as it does the sign-by-sign transitions in the other eleven months. Below the result sit four figures: the element again, your age in years, the number of days until your next birthday, and your birth year. The date field accepts anything between 1900 and 2099. A second panel lists all twelve signs with their ranges and highlights yours, which is a quicker way to check a boundary date than guessing. This is the tropical system used by newspaper horoscope columns, where the sign depends only on the calendar date and not the time of day.

Enter your date of birth to find your Western zodiac sign, its date range and its element, plus your Chinese zodiac animal and its supposed traits. Just for fun.

Key Capabilities
  • Capricorn's year-wrapping range of 22 December to 19 January is resolved correctly rather than being treated as a normal in-year span.
  • Each sign carries its symbol, element, full date range and traditional trait list, all from a single lookup table.
  • The age, days-to-next-birthday and birth-year figures are computed from your device's clock and current date.
  • A twelve-sign reference panel shows every range at once and highlights the one you matched.
Common Use Cases
  • Someone checks which sign they are after a friend tells them they are a different one.
  • A party host finds the sign for each guest's birthday to put together a themed seating plan.
  • A student comparing Western tropical dates with a sidereal chart sees why the two systems disagree by roughly 24 days.
Clear Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my birthday falls on a cusp day?
Every year has at least one day that belongs to two sign ranges under the tropical system — the 20th of March and the 19th of November among them. The lookup assigns the day to the sign whose range contains it, which is the convention used by most published horoscope tables. Neither astrological system has any bearing on your actual life.
Does the birth time change my sign?
Not in this calculation. Tropical astrology assigns signs by calendar date alone, which is why only a date is asked for here. Some sidereal systems also need the birth time and place, and shift sign boundaries by about 24 days because of axial precession.
Where do the traits come from?
They are the conventional pairings associated with each sign in Western astrology — thousands of years old and not derived from evidence. They are here as a light reference, not a personality assessment.
Does this cover Chinese or other zodiac systems?
No. This is the Western tropical zodiac only. Chinese zodiac years follow a different twelve-animal cycle keyed to the lunar new year rather than to a solar date range.
